Running the Solver & History

The Solution Tab is the engine room of AutoAllocate. This is where your configurations, data, and rules come together to produce an optimal allocation.

1. Running the Solver

To start the allocation process, click the "Run !" or "Run Solver Now" button.

Pre-Run Confirmation

A dialog will appear showing the key statistics for your project:

  • Total Resources, Targets, and Rules.
  • Credit Cost: The number of credits required to run this specific calculation.

Credit-Based Pricing

AutoAllocate uses a simple, fair credit system instead of a subscription.

  • Pay for Success: You are only charged if the engine finds a feasible or optimal solution.
  • Complexity-Based Cost: The cost is determined by your project's "Score" (Resources × Targets × Rules).
Project SizeScore RangeCredit Cost
SmallUp to 10,0001 Credit
MediumUp to 50,0002 Credits
LargeUp to 100,0003 Credits
EnterpriseOver 100,0005 Credits

The Solving Process

Once you click RUN ENGINE, the solver begins its work.

  • Speed: Most projects solve in seconds. The largest Enterprise projects may take up to 30 seconds.
  • Notes: You can add a reference note to the run to help identify it later in your history.

2. Analyzing the Solution

If a solution is found, it is displayed immediately in the Solution Tab.

Viewing Results

You have three ways to inspect the allocation:

  1. Card View: Each resource is shown as a card listing its assigned targets and its Utilization Metric (how much of its capacity is filled).
  2. Table View: A spreadsheet-style overview of all assignments.
  3. Unallocated/Unused: A dedicated view to see which targets could not be assigned and which resources remain empty.

Solution Statistics

The header of the solution page provides overall health metrics:

  • Solve Time: Exactly how long the engine took.
  • Overall Utilization: The average capacity usage across all resources.
  • Allocation Count: How many targets out of the total were successfully placed.

Exporting Data

Once you are happy with the solution, you can export it for use in other tools:

  • Layouts: Choose your preferred format (e.g., "One row per allocation").
  • Formats: Download the results as an Excel or CSV file.

3. History Tab

The History Tab acts as a permanent audit log for your project. Every time you run the solver and find a solution, it is recorded here.

  • View Past Runs: Select any previous run from the list to see exactly what the solution looked like at that time.
  • Reference Notes: Review your notes to understand why a specific run was performed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use history to track how changes to your rules or data impact the efficiency of your allocations over time.
